Workshop
We are happy to announce that this year’s We Are Artists Workshop will be presented by Mark Pierson, the author of The Art of Curating Worship. We are able to work with Mark thanks to the generous support of the EP Wahl Centre at Taylor Seminary, for which we are truly grateful. Mark brings a fresh perspective to the art and faith conversation, asking us what would happen if worship experiences looked and functioned more like art installations. If you haven’t read his book yet, I recommend it. And if you are available the afternoon of June 19th, don’t miss this special opportunity to meet with other artists and worshipers to explore the fusion of both endeavors.
Here are the details;
JUNE 19, 1:30-5 PM
THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST STEPHEN THE MARTYR
(11725 – 93 St)
$15 per session or $20 for both (pay at the door)
Please RSVP by email to Kristin at kristinkajorinne@gmail.com.
Part One | 1:30-3 PM
Worship as Art, Art as Worship
Mark will introduce us to the theory/philosophy/big ideas behind understanding worship as an art form and worship curating. Recommended for artists as well as church and worship leaders wanting to explore the place of the arts in worship and a new approach to designing worship events.
Part Two| 3:30-5 PM
The Art of Curating Worship
We’ll go wider and explore the application of worship curating principles to a range of worship events inside and outside the church. Sacred spaces in public places as well as regular services.
Wondering if this is for you?
I found Mark’s book challenging and refreshing, as it goes way beyond currently accepted conventions of art in worship (like ‘worship painting’ or ‘worship dance’ for instance). While these are valid expressions, I believe Mark is calling the Church to rethink our entire worship experience, and calling us artists to bring new life and new perspective to our communities. Anyone interested in exploring how their artistic gifting can function within the church, or wondering how to work alongside artists in a church community, will benefit from these sessions.
