I definitely agree that it didn't seem to pick a direction. A few pointed moments showing public schools having to sell ad space on the inside of their school buses, and I really appreciated the trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
However, I felt a little violated after leaving the theatre. Like I had just paid to see a 90 minute infomercial. After all, ironic advertisements are still advertisements. He may have told me to buy POM with a twinkle in his eye but I was still considering buying one when next I saw it at Safeway.

WATCHING
Up All Night (meh)
Twin Peaks (Pilot)
Gullivers Travels (not at all horrible)
City of Ember
Mary and Max (wow!)

LISTENING
Over The Rhine, The Long Surrender (better with each listen)
Dan Mangan, Oh Fortune (and other shuffled tracks)
Matthew Barber, Matthew Barber
CBC Podcasts (Under The Influence, Wiretap, The Vinyl Cafè)

READING
The Gift, Lewis Hyde
Acts
Psalms

EXPERIENCING
New galleries at The AGA. The Untimely Transmogrification of The Problem by Chris Millar is a world or two to get lost in. Not sure that little RBC New Works Gallery ever has been, or ever will be again, so large inside.

Excitement planning a trip to Vancouver/Seattle and who I get to chat with there.

A bit of trepidation over the upcoming Tree of Life discussion. Reactions so far from our community have tended towards the 'what the heck was that and why did I waste time watching it?' camp. Oh oh.

Thanks, I'll collect my reward shortly...

I thought 50/50 was the kind of movie that epitomizes the phrase "yeah, that was good". I didn't really have any issues with it, nothing really that I would have wanted it to have done differently, but it wasn't essential viewing by any means. A good balance of humor and heart without forcing either, but not funny or moving enough to warrant a strong recommendation.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you watch it, you'll probably enjoy it, but if you go your whole life without seeing it, you won't be missing out.
